The police force in Monstown has trouble keeping its members motivated. After all, most of their work consists of patrolling, fining drivers, attending to administrative tasks, and not much more. When a hero is needed, it's always the Elektra Patrol stepping in to save the day, so the work of police officers isn't that valued and they easily get, let's say, distracted.

That is the case of Rick Coyote, who was caught accepting a bribe from Don Canine for leaking confidential information to him. That incident got Rick fired, and with his skill set, hunting was one of the few jobs he could resort to. He doesn't love it but must admit he's good at it. Plus, it pays for his suits and cologne.
