Young Al was only a puppy when he first dabbled in crime and contraband. He used to run errands for his mother’s shop, La Mamma’s Bakery, but in between deliveries he started making what seemed like harmless business exchanges. Soon, they stopped being innocent. He told La Mamma he didn’t want to run errands anymore—he had started his own business. She thought her little angel was a precocious entrepreneur. And in a way, he was. Al was learning directly from Monstown’s top gang bosses—whom he would later overthrow to claim their share of the business.

Al Canine quickly became one of the most feared figures in Monstown. He was caught and jailed more than once, but always found a way to slip back out. He wore sharp suits, was driven around in luxury cars, and carried himself with swagger… but his shady reputation followed him everywhere. Monsters whispered and cast wary glances whenever he passed. Everyone knew who he was, though few dared admit it. And while Al ruled the back alleys, there was still one kind of power he didn’t have: public power.

He hadn’t exactly chased it, but when Malairion offered to make him Mayor of Monstown, official authority suddenly became irresistible. Under the new name Don Canine, he ran a ruthless campaign and won the mayor’s office.

His reign was short-lived. The Elektra Patrol first cut off his alliance with Malairion, then ended his time in office altogether. Ironically, Don Canine was sentenced to prison, not for his years running the black market, but for the few months he spent as mayor. A shame, because he had savored holding legitimate power.

That could have been the end of Canine. But years later, when the Alliance of Evil took over the universe of Monster Legends, they called on Don Canine to help execute their plans. They saw him as the perfect puppet to keep Elektra’s factions in check.

But Canine is older now, and wiser. He knows how to play the public game, and he’s no one’s puppet.\n
