During construction work at Monstown High, Worker Hulk accidentally triggered a small cave-in, and a row of lockers fell into the hole. Rather than trying to fish them out, he filled the hole and built over it. The lockers were immediately forgotten—along with one student’s full backpack, lunch and all.

Fifty years later, some Monsters were playing Rockball on this patch of pavement when huge cracks began to appear! Was it an earthquake? An attack by Revenge Squadron?

No! The ground crumbled away as a massive mutant backpack emerged, roaring in triumph, from the hole in the earth. Students ran screaming in every direction as the enormous Schoolbug lifted itself out of its underground incubator, grabbing everything (and everyone) near it, and stuffing it all in its mouth.

Thinking quickly, Coach Poodle started performing his most spectacular gym teacher moves to distract Schoolbug: The Pommel Horse. The Touchdown Dance. Even the mesmerizing, near-forbidden Basketball Drill. All these and more, until Schoolbug had fallen totally under the spell of physical education, and could be subdued by the assistant gym teacher with a net full of footballs to the head.

Finally, Monstown High was safe! But one question remained on everybody’s mind: What the heck was in that kid’s lunch?!
