According to a local legend, Onikapa is a twisted hulk who only leaves his boggy lair to devour lost children. Knowing this tale, four brave young monsters decided to slay him and prove themselves worthy of training at the Honor Dojo.

One day, they snuck deep into the swamp until they finally found Onikapa’s dwelling. They waited for night to fall, then readied their weapons and crept forward slowly, not daring to make a sound.

Unfortunately, it was then that one hungry member of the hunting party peeked in Onikapa’s window and saw a spread of green tea, red bean cakes, and other sweets. He couldn’t resist reaching in for one…

…and that’s when Onikapa grabbed his hand.

Once they stopped screaming, the kids realized that Onikapa wasn’t just having tea by himself—he’d prepared this massive spread especially for them. And that he was smiling, not snarling, totally overjoyed to have visitors.

When those young monsters finally left the swamp, it was with bellies full of treats and ears stuffed with swampy wisdom (rather than Onikapa’s head on a stick, as they’d originally planned.) The true story quickly spread, and now Onikapa spends most of his time baking and philosophizing to his army of new young friends. The only monsters who still believe Onikapa is evil are the adults…because the kids refuse to share their snacks!
