Konrad von Krow was one of Monstelvania's most relevant aristocrats, in fact, too relevant for Count Vlad's comfort. Konrad and the Count had always had a quiet war between them—a constant race for power and glamour. If Konrad bought a new coffin, the Count had one made in gold. If Count Vlad hosted a party, Konrad would host one the week after, ten times as spectacular and would invite ambassadors from all over Petra to it.They not-so-secretly despised each other, but the fallout arrived when Konrad von Krow bought a castle right by Count Vlad's just to annoy him. However, the Count had already made plans for it, so he expropriated it and gave it to his daughter Fampirastral instead.
Theirs was no longer a discreet competition but an open war, and Konrad had lost. Furious and humiliated, he decided to leave Monstelvania, but he took all his riches and businesses with him, leaving the town with an economic crisis.
His new home? The Dead Prairie, home of the Dark Blades. Nishant the Great didn't hesitate before making his new neighbor the ambassador for his faction. It was a win-win: A title is all that Konrad ever wanted, and now Nishant doesn't need to pretend he's interested in anything other than life, death, and all the dark magic around them.
