For the longest time, Count Vlad remained inside his luxurious castle, hosting parties and social gatherings, as well as strategic meetings that often had little to do with him, but they kept him close to the action in Petra.

Life had been easy these past years. He had stayed out of most conflicts, watched his daughter Fampirastral grow up, evolve, and become her own monster… From time to time, he wondered what it would be like to transform into an improved version of himself, like so many monsters in this universe. But comfort always outweighed that curiosity.

Then she woke up: Dame Batoriova, his not-necessarily-beloved mother-in-law. He couldn’t complain much about her—after all, she was the one who had given him his luxurious lifestyle. She had also known when to step aside and let him rule Monstelvania. But he had always known that if she ever came back, she would want to rule. And so it happened.

The minute Dame Batoriova stepped out of her coffin, she asked about the current situation in Petra. After learning that the righteous factions now ruled practically everywhere thanks to their alliances, she had the idea of organizing a congress for all evil factions, right there, in their Monstelvania castle.

Of course, she had an opinion on what Vlad and her daughter, Countess Flawless, had been doing all these years, and of course, it wasn’t a good one. In her view, they had been two lazy monsters, missing thousands of opportunities to put Monstelvania at the center of the action. The fact that neither of them had transformed in all this time was, to her, revolting. So she transformed them both in one swift move and told them that, from now on, they’d have to start acting like their new titles: Marquess and Marchioness.

And Marquess Vlad isn’t allowed an opinion on this.
