Melterian was dangerously ill. His core was burning far too hot, consuming him ten times faster than any of his colleagues in the Fiery Forces. At that rate, he’d burn out and die within a year. His attempts to slow the process through stress management or calming techniques proved useless; if anything, they only made things worse.

Then one day, Torog Moltenthroat offered him a simple, almost absurd suggestion: “What if you cooled down…literally?”

That offhand remark changed everything. Soon after, Melterian set off to join the Summitfolk. It wasn’t easy; the Fiery Forces and the Summitfolk stood on opposite sides of Nebotus’ monumental conflict. But once Torog and Tyr Stormbringer agreed to a temporary non-aggression pact, Melterian was finally able to settle in with his new crowd, and, surprisingly, the solution worked.

It was cold up there. Any other monster would have frozen solid, but for Melterian, the chill simply brought his core back to a normal, sustainable melt.
