In the beginning of time, Saurians were pretty much the only ones in Petra. There were small tribes of other monsters here and there, and those would later become the first factions, but mostly, it was just Saurians. They were everywhere, and they were more a species than a faction. It wasn’t until one of them, notably stronger than the rest, brought all Saurians together around him, that they became a group, a pack. His name was Saberus and, under his leadership, Saurians turned into the terror of all the minor groups and tribes in Petra.
They wiped out entire camps and settlements in the flick of an eye. Why? For no reason. Primal brutality was part of their nature. Very few escaped their destruction, but one of them still lives today: Sibidu the Apex.
Years passed and, while Saurians stayed the same, other groups had no choice but to evolve and organize to survive the constant threat of this feral pack. At that point, tables turned and they became an endangered species. They were alone against the rest, but a half-Saurian who went by the name of Linnaeus and had grown up in civilization, decided to join the pack. He was so small that he couldn’t defend himself, but he had something that none of the other Saurians had: Sentience. Thanks to it, he knew that Saurians needed a change. Otherwise, they’d be killed by the rest, and their brutal strength wouldn’t be enough to make it against thousands of monsters with a strategy.
Linnaeus teamed up with Saberus. One had the strength and the other one had the intelligence, and together they tried to direct the Saurian pack towards a different life that wasn’t destruction-centric. Trying to change the nature of a whole species isn’t easy, but they started by occupying free areas instead of surprising tribes and taking their land.
It worked for a while, until Linnaeus made a bad call one winter. He chose a mountain where the Saurians would hibernate until the spring but, as they climbed the mountain, they made the surface shake and provoked a landslide. Rocks and snow covered them and, after that, a glacier slowly came down the mountain too, and trapped them completely. It was the end of the Saurians. Or so everyone thought.
Saurians became something of history books. Part of the past. But centuries later, after a particularly hot summer, the glacier melted and flowed like a river down the mountain, dragging all the rocks that covered the Saurians with it. And a miracle happened… Some of them came back to life, including Linnaeus & Saberus.
Life has given the Saurians a new opportunity, but will they know how to live in this new world, filled with different civilizations? If someone can learn from the past and lead the Saurians into the future, that’s Linnaeus & Saberus.
