Like most deep-ocean dwellers, Octomancer was accustomed to danger and an ever-shifting landscape of possible threats and new challenges. As a result of this volatile environment, he developed incredible powers and eventually became one of the strongest natural mages in Petra. Hearing of his incredible abilities from contacts in the Adventurer’s Guild, the Magic Council reached out to Octomancer with a golden offer to join them as their resident expert on Water magic. Octomancer accepted, bored of being at the bottom of the sea and thinking he would surely find his “true” place amongst the other mages.

But on deck during the passage, Octomancer suddenly realized that THIS was what he wanted. A life at sea, smelling the briny air and looking at the stars! It was being UNDER the water that was the problem all along. What would he do in a library for the rest of his life?! It sounded awfully dry, figuratively AND literally. Still, he decided to press on, thinking that it was only a temporary qualm.

Now that Octomancer’s had a few years of Magic Council work under his belt, he’s sure that the sailor’s life is the one he truly wants. But it’s not like someone just quits the Magic Council with all its prestige and glory, so for the time being, he’s stuck playing with toy boats in a saltwater bathtub and dreaming of seeing the ocean again.
